A documentary based on the 1997 U2 concert held in Sarajevo will be shown exclusively in AMC Theaters starting February 23. The film, titled Kiss the Future, was financed by entertainment company Fifth Season and was produced by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck under their production company Artists Equity, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The documentary is based on the memoir written by Bill Carter titled Fools Rush In, which tells how music and art affected change during the Siege of Sarajevo during the Bosnian War, which lasted from 1992 to 1996.
In a post-war Sarajevo and inspired by the art and music during that difficult time, U2 was eventually enlisted to bring awareness to the conflict and perform a concert for the people of Sarajevo.
The documentary was directed by Nenad Cicin-Sain, who directed and wrote the movie The Time Being (2012).
The documentary was first released in 2023 during the Berlin Film Festival in February and a few other festivals throughout the year, according to Deadline.
Some of the featured people throughout the film will include U2’s Bono, The Edge, and Adam Clayton, and there is currently a clip online from the documentary showing Bono speaking about how people use music in their lives.
Besides the official screenings, AMC will have an early screening on February 21, with Damon and Affleck introducing the film, viewing the film, then a Q&A with the ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina Vesna Andree Zaimovic and Bill Carter along with U2’s Edge and Clayton.
