Netflix seems to be on a roll acquiring movies left and right. The latest film bought up by Netflix is Alloy Entertainment’s romance feature, Purple Hearts, that Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum will be directing. Deadline confirmed the recent buy.
Deadline also confirmed that Nicholas Galitzine would play the lead role in Purple Hearts opposite Sofia Carson, who is also set to star as the leading lady.
Tony nominee Kyle Jarrow (Valor) and Liz Garcia (The Lifeguard) adapted Purple Hearts from Tess Wakefield’s novel.
Not only is Carson starring in the film, but she will also co-write and perform the Purple Hearts original soundtrack.
Cassie (Carson), an aspiring singer-songwriter, and US Marine Luke (Galitzine) fall madly in love despite their many differences and against all obstacles that stand in their way.
“There are so many aspects and so much depth to the character of Luke that are a great match with Nick’s talent,” said Rosenbaum. “He has the range to play the character’s military strength, troubled family background, and vulnerability in his character’s growing relationship with ‘Cassie,’ and his chemistry with Sofia is undeniable.”
Galitzine’s next film will be in Amazon’s Cinderella as Prince Robert alongside Camila Cabello.
Purple Hearts will start filming later this summer in California.
