Amazon is making a move in the feature film industry, and it looks to make a fairly big impression this time around. The giant corporation has decided to create a film titled Limelight. In order to bring the story to fruition, the studio chose Alfonso Gomez-Rejon to helm the upcoming movie from the director’s chair, according to Deadline. Rejon directed the beautiful romantic drama Me and Earl and the Dying Girl. He also directed various episodes of American Horror Story and Glee, revealing a pretty varied career path.
Limelight looks to be a fairly interesting film as it follows the true story of Peter Gatien, the head honcho of party life in the 1990’s through his various nightclubs across the country. Gatien, a Canadian who moved to America to find work. Once in the country, he made a name for himself using money gained from a hockey injury, creating club after club in big cities. His New York club exploded him onto the scene and gained widespread acclaim with actors, celebrities, and other big names, but it also attracted the attention of the police. In a huge fluctuation in fortune, he was eventually successfully defeated via not paying the IRS and forcibly sent back to his home country. His finances from his lucrative clubs as he returned to the north? Only half a grand.
We hope to hear more about the film and its castings in the near future.
