The classic fairytale of Cinderella has been told and retold countless times. From the Rogers and Hammerstein musical adaptation to the famous Disney animated movie and to Ella Enchanted books, everyone has encountered some version of the Cinderella story.
Now Movie Web reports that Amazon Prime will be releasing their own take on the classic fairytale. The movie will star singer Camila Cabello in the lead role of Cinderella. Broadway legend Billy Porter will be playing the role of Cinderella’s ‘Fab G’ whose role has the same function as the fairy god mother. Other members of the cast will include Idina Menzel, Pierce Brosnan, and Minnie Driver. Director Kay Cannon, who is probably best known for directing the hit film Pitch Perfect, will be directing this Cinderella movie. James Corden is going to be serving as a producer on the movie.
The movie will be a musical, but it won’t feature any of the songs from the Disney version or from the Rogers and Hammerstein musical. Instead the movie will use covers of popular songs and some original ones written by Menzel and Cabello.
Amazon Prime’s new Cinderella movie will be released some time this coming September.
