Amazon MGM Reveals Spaceballs 2 Cast, Starts Production

Spaceballs

Amazon MGM Studios announced last Thursday that they have begun production for the Spaceballs sequel (the official name has not yet been revealed). The company also released a black-and-white photo of the cast’s table read. In typical Spaceballs fashion, the setting and style of the image parodies a 2015 photo of a Star Wars: The Force Awakens table read.

The table read photo is not the only way the film’s press team has extended Spaceballs humor to official media releases. The team responded to speculation with a sarcastic statement: “While the title and plot details are being kept under wraps, the title is rumored to be the name of the movie, and plot details are being described as information about what happens in the story.”

Rick Moranis, Mel Brooks, Bill Pullman, Daphne Zuniga, and George Wyner will reprise their roles from the original 1987 comedy sci-fi. Lewis Pullman (Top Gun: Maverick) will act alongside his father in an unspecified role. Other additions to the cast include Keke Palmer (Nope), Anthony Carrigan (Barry), and Josh Gad (Frozen).

Gad is also a co-writer, alongside Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez, and producer for the film. Josh Greenbaum (New Girl) is directing the sequel to the cult-classic.

Spaceballs 2 will reach theaters in 2027.
