Amazon MGM Head Jen Salke Steps Down

The head of Amazon MGM studios is officially stepping down. Jen Salke will be resigning her position at the company, garnering in a switch in leadership.

Salke has been a part of Amazon MGM since 2018, in which she’s overseen a multitude of changes to the company. And with the changes also came successes, as well.

Originally just Prime Video, just a few years ago the company acquired MGM studios while Salke was at the head, continuing through the successful merger. Now as Amazon MGM, the company had a number of successful film releases, while others proved to be a gamble.

One such gamble that didn’t pan out as expected, as Variety notes, was that of last years’ Red One, a blockbuster in which North Pole agents have to track down Santa Claus. With a price tag of $250 million on the production, the film only took home $185 million worldwide.

Variety also noted that even just in the realm of film there were many successes. One of which was Creed III, which was well received from a critical standpoint, but also made $156 million domestically.

“As I’ve been considering my next chapter, I’ve always been searching for that moment where I was positive that our work had set up Amazon MGM Studios for even more success in the long term.  When I look at the teams we’ve put in place, our amazing leaders, and the incredible slate of films and shows we’ve got in the pipeline, I realized now is that moment,” Salke herself had to say.
