Monday’s opening in All the Money in the World brought in humble $2.6 million, appearing at theaters in Canada, The United States, and Mexico. The film follows the story of 16-year-old J. Paul Getty III and his mother’s desperate attempts to get his billionaire father to pay the ransom, a request which seems to fall on careless ears.
Despite a rocky start with previous star Kevin Spacey being accused of sexual misconduct and the main role being recast and reshot with Christopher Plummer in unexpected and much-appreciated move from many, the film has been nominated for three Golden Globes. Ridley Scott, who was behind the difficult and adeptly-excuted switch from Spacey to Plummer, garnered nomination for Best Director. Plummer also got his own nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Michelle Williams was the final person involved in the project to receive Globes recognition, namely in the category of Best Actress. Hopefully this critical recognition will allow the film a longer run in movie theaters, which will also most likely improve its earning potential.
