On the first weekend of the Karlovy Vary Film Festival, which runs from June 30-July 8, 2023, Alicia Vikander and Ewan McGregor will showcase their recent projects on June 30th and receive an honorary President’s Award. Vikander will showcase her 2023 Cannes competition film, Firebrand, and McGregor will present his film, You Sing Loud, I SingLouder (2023).
Directed by Emma Westenberg, You Sing Loud, I Sing Louder stars McGregor and his real-life daughter, Clara McGregor, as a father-daughter duo who set out on a journey and must overcome challenging encounters that test their familial relationship. McGregor gained prominence from his early films, such as Shallow Grave (1994), Trainspotting (1996), Star Wars: The Phantom Menace (1999), and Moulin Rouge (2001). Since then, McGregor has won a Golden Globe for Best Actor for his part in the third season of FX’s Fargo (2017). McGregor also won an Emmy for his role as fashion designer Halston in the Netflix mini-series.
Firebrand, directed by Karim Aïnouz, is a fictionalized story about Katherine Parr, the sixth and final wife of English King Henry VIII. Vikander plays Parr alongside Jude Law as King Henry. The film debuted at last month’s Cannes Film Festival in France. Vikander started her career as a ballet dancer at the Royal Swedish Ballet in Stockholm but then switched careers when she debuted in Lisa Lansgeth’s feature Pure in 2010. Vikander is known for her performances in Anna Karenin (2012), Ex Machina (2014), The Danish Girl (2015), and The Man from U.N.C.L.E (2015). Vikander was nominated for Golden Globe and BAFTA awards for her work in Ex Machina and The Danish Girl. The actress subsequently won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2016 for Tom Hooper’s The Danish Girl.
