Alia Shawkat has been cast to co-star in Dylan Meyer’s new film, The Wrong Girls. The Neon distributed comedy co-stars Kristen Stewart and is about codependent best friends living paycheck to paycheck and bong rip to bong rip, when a case of mistaken identity throws their lives into chaos.
Seth Rogen serves as one of the producers with Evan Goldberg of Point Grey Pictures. The Knocked Up actor is in a supporting role with notable talent, Kumail Nanjiani (The Big Sick), LaKeith Stanfield (Get Out), Zack Fox (Abbott Elementary), and Tony Hale (Veep). Nevermind Pictures, Savage Rose Films, and Curious Gremlin are also set to produce.
The indie is one of the first to start its 29-day production in Los Angeles following the wildfires. Approximately 95% of the 100 people working per day are expected to be Los Angeles residents. Producers revealed that Mannequin Pussy is involved in the film with a live performance at a venue in Los Angeles.
Shawkat and Stewart have delivered enduring performances throughout their careers. While Stewart gained wide recognition for her role in the Twilight franchise, she has since starred in bold films like the Neon distributed Spencer, for which she received an Academy Award nomination. Shawkat forged her path with a role in the beloved Arrested Development and most recently starred in Search Party and Blink Twice.
Written by Meyer, The Wrong Girls will be her feature directorial debut. Neon is set to release the film domestically and is currently shopping the international rights.
