News broke that Alex Timbers is currently negotiating to direct the live-action origin story of the iconic Disney villain from 101 Dalmations. Emma Stone has been attached for quite some time to star as Cruella and the studio wants to begin production early next year with Jez Butterworth’s penning most recent script.
This news comes after Disney and Timbers parted ways last year over the Broadway adaptation of Frozen. This certainly confirms they have not completely parted ways and still have an open line of communication.
The two-time Tony-nominated writer and director has been busy, even working with Baz Luhrmann on the stage adaptation of Moulin Rouge. Timbers most recently had a successful Broadway opening of Oh, Hello On Broadway.
No official word on the plot to Cruella has been released.
