Alec Baldwin’s Involuntary Manslaughter Charges Have Been Dismissed

Charges against Alec Baldwin regarding involuntary manslaughter have been dismissed, according to prosecutors overseeing the shooting of Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust.

These charges are said to have been dropped due to new evidence being found surrounding the gun that fatally shot Hutchins, which was found to be modified (CNN). Special prosecutors Kari Morrissey and Jason Lewis claimed they could not “proceed under the current time constraints and on the facts and evidence turned over by law enforcement in its existing form… We therefore will be dismissing the involuntary manslaughter charges against Mr. Baldwin to conduct further investigation… This decision does not absolve Mr. Baldwin of criminal culpability, and charges may be refiled.”

Unlike Baldwin, the armorer for Rust Hannah Gutierrez-Reed’s charges have not been dismissed or changed; however, like Baldwin, she also pleaded ‘not guilty.’ Her attorneys, Jason Bowles and Todd Bullion, told CNN: “We fully expect at the end of this process that Hannah will also be exonerated.”

The First Judicial Court of New Mexico will hold a status hearing for the case on Friday at 4:30 p.m. ET, which will be live-streamed on the New Mexico Court’s YouTube page.
