30 Rock star and Oscar nominee Alec Baldwin is attached to star in the lead role for upcoming film Rust. Baldwin will also be producing the project under his El Dorado Pictures company alongside Anjul Nigam (Never Have I Ever) and executive producer Matthew Helderman.
Rust is an action-Western story based on a story by Baldwin and his collaborator Joel Souza (Crown Vic), who will write and direct the picture as well. The film is currently headed to the upcoming Marché du Film Online, Cannes‘ inaugural digital market for buyers. Highland Film Group will reportedly launch international sales at the annual digital market, with CAA Media Finance handling its domestic rights.
Rust centers around an infamous Western outlaw Harland Rust (Baldwin), who has had a bounty for as long as he can remember. When he finds out that his estranged 13-year-old grandson Lucas has been convicted of an accidental murder and sentenced to hang, he travels to Kansas to break him out of prison. Together, the two fugitives must outrun the legendary U.S. Marshal Wood Helm and bounty-hunter Fenton ‘Preacher’ Lang, who are hot on their tail. As the duo tries to survive and travel across the ruthless American frontier, they discover deeply buried secrets and most importantly, an unexpected familial bond between the pair at odds.
