A lawsuit has been leveled against Warner Bros. Discovery and CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk, from Alcon Entertainment. Alcon is suing on the grounds of copyright infringement.
Alcon was responsible for helping with Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049, the sequel to the 80’s sci-fi classic. The film saw Ryan Gosling star as a police officer who doubles as a replicant, or artificial human. A secret comes across his path that sees him risk himself to get to the bottom of, before the world can attempt to quiet the potential of his own humanity.
Reportedly, Musk had asked to use select scenes from the film for a Cybercab presentation, which Alcon turned down.
However, later on during the presentation in question, footage that resembled Gosling’s depiction from the film was used briefly. Deadline reports that the footage was described as “apparently AI-generated fake imagery,” which also led to Musk attempting to explain the usage rather than explain what he was pitching to begin with.
Deadline also noted that Warner Bros. Discovery, on top of working on the film, comes into the fold due to a continuing partnership between Musk’s Tesla and Warner Bros. Discovery, run by David Zaslav. As a result, the Cybercab presentation in question was held in one of the studio lots of Warner Bros. Discovery.
