The true-story thriller Kidnapping Mr. Heineken has been picked up by Alchemy – formerly Millennium Entertainment – for U.S. distribution. The film stars Sam Worthington (Avatar), Anthony Hopkins (Silence of the Lambs), and Jim Sturgess (21), and was directed by Daniel Alfredson (The Girl Who Played with Fire). The poster (above) was also just released.
The movie follows the 1983 kidnapping of the beer tycoon Alfred “Freddy” Heineken (Hopkins) by Willem Holleeder (Worthington) and Cor Van Hout (Sturgess). At the time, the ransom was the largest ever paid for one person.
Alfredson is best know for directing the sequels to the original film adaption of the The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest. Like those films, this is an adaptation of a novel. It’s one of two English-speaking projects Alfredson has coming up. The other is the thriller, Go with Me, starring Julia Stiles as well as Hopkins.
Kidnapping Mr. Heineken will get a simultaneous release on VOD and in limited theaters March 6, 2015. The Australian trailer released earlier this year. Check it out below:
