Alchemy has acquired the distribution rights for the documentary Rolling Papers, which just had its premiere at the South by Southwest festival in Austin. The documentary focuses on Ricardo Baca, the first pot editor at The Denver Post, who was hired after recreational marijuana use was legalized in Colorado.
The movie is directed by Colorado filmmaker Mitch Dickman, whose last film, Hanna Ranch, centered on three generations of workers on a rural Colorado ranch. This continues Dickman’s interest in his home state and the people who make up its population.
Ricardo Baca’s story will keep people interested in the already thought-provoking Colorado marijuana culture and we’re happy to have played a part in letting everyone get behind the scenes of this modern cultural phenomenon.
This is the second acquisition for Alchemy – previously Millennium Entertainment – at SXSW. Yesterday, they announced the purchase of the rights to the con man caper Moonwalkers.
