Alan Tudyk to Voice Jafar’s Sidekick, Iago, in ‘Aladdin’

With the new live-action Aladdin remake from Disney on the horizon, fans are curious about the whereabouts of a certain character in this film. The iconic Disney side-villain, Iago, has been seen numerous times in the trailers, however, it was unknown whether or not Gilbert Godfrey is returning for the role or if the parrot talks at all. The bad news is Godfrey, whose voice is so well associated with Iago, is not returning for the live-action adaptation. The good news is the replacement for him is no stranger to voicing Disney characters.

Alan Tudyk, whose voice-acting roles in Disney films ranged from K2-SO in Rogue One and King Candy from Wreck-It Ralph, will be voicing the loud parrot in the new Aladdin remake. Whether the actor does an impression of Gilbert Godfrey or does his own unique interpretation of the character is yet to be announced. Regardless, this is another role to add to Tudyk’s ever-growing list of Disney characters he voices.

Aladdin is set to release on May 24, 2019.

Ryan Pineda: When it comes to film, animation, video games and other mediums, I can discuss for hours about how much on why certain films and animated media made me the person I am today. I adore the artistic merit that comes from a lot of pop-culture media and will definitely love to have a conversation about favorite movies any day! I have graduated in 2017 with a BA in Film and Television at the University of Arizona. Been passionate about writing about films due to always having an interesting outlook on the medium. Will always see a film and will definitely be sure to recommend it to someone that I know for a fact would love that movie. Not only that but will also give reasons for why I think that film did or did not work as a movie, and the same can go for other pieces of media like television, video games and especially animated projects.
