As previously discussed, after writing and directing the drama Margin Call (featuring Kevin Spacey, Jeremy Irons, and Demi Moore) about financial crisis at an investment bank and earning an Oscar nomination for Best Screenplay in 2012, J.C. Chandor presented his most recent film All is Lost starring Robert Redford at the Cannes Film Festival. The film received ample praises, including some from one of our own.
Now with two acclaimed and diverse films under his belt, Chandor is gearing up for a new film, entitled A Most Violent Year. Like both Margin Call and All is Lost, A Most Violent Year will be written and directed by the talented filmmaker. Not much information is being released about the new project, even the logline is being kept tightly under wraps, but Deadline has reported that the budget will be much larger (his first two feature-length films had budgets of about $3.4 million and $9 million) and that some of Hollywood’s best are being considered for roles in the movie. It looks like Chandor is on the market for a star-studded ensemble much like that of his first feature, and from the buzz being generated about him and his work, he is likely to get it. He is also teaming up again with his producers from Margin Call and All is Lost , Neal Dodson (currently producing Break up at a Wedding) and Anna Gerb (2004’s Blood). Glen Basner, known for his involvement with movies such as The Raven and the Jeff Nichols-directed Mud, which was nominated for the Palm d’or at last year’s Cannes, is set to be the executive producer on the project.
The film is expected to begin shooting in New York this fall and its expected release date is 2015.
