Adam Scott Stars In Trailer For Damian McCarthy’s Irish Horror ‘Hokum’ From Neon

A shot from the official trailer for 'Hokum' (2026).

Damian McCarthy is set to terrify audiences once again as the official trailer for his upcoming horror film Hokum, starring Adam Scott, has been released. The feature is written and directed by McCarthy, best known for his Irish horror films Caveat (2020) and Oddity (2024), the latter of which won the Audience Award at South by Southwest.
The synopsis that can be found in the caption of the official trailer up on Neon’s YouTube describes the feature, summarizing:
When novelist Ohm Bauman (Scott) retreats to a remote inn to scatter his parents’ ashes, he is consumed by tales of a witch haunting the honeymoon suite. Disturbing visions and a shocking disappearance forces him to confront dark corners of his past.
Peter Coonan, David Wilmot, and Austin Amelio will star alongside Scott in this terrifying Irish horror. Hokum is arguably his biggest project yet and will premiere at the 2026 South By Southwest Festival on March 14. The horror feature set to be distributed by Neon, the production company that has distributed horror films such as Longlegs (2024), Immaculate (2024), Together (2025), and The Monkey (2025), and Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee, along with Steven Schnieder, are named as producers.
Unlike the teaser, this official trailer offers deeper insight into the premise of Hokum, as viewers are shown Scott experiencing his own Shining-esque moment in a hotel setting in an isolated forest, and a writer in emotional turmoil reminiscent of Kubrick’s Stephen King adaptation. A particularly terrifying shot in the trailer comes at the very end, where Scott faces off against a horrifying-looking woman-rabbit hybrid, just to give audiences a taste of what to expect.
Hokum is set to release in theaters on May 1st. View the official trailer below.
