After their previous collaborations on Loving and Midnight Special, actor Adam Driver and director Jeff Nichols are reuniting for a third time on the upcoming film Yankee Comandante, according to Deadline The project is strictly adapted from a New Yorker article written by David Grann that examines the real life events of two men who ascended the rankings of Comandante during the gruesome Cuban Revolution.
Within the article, readers are introduced to American officer William Alexander Morgan, who aids Fidel Castro during the Cuban rebellion in overthrowing Fulgencio Batista from power. Morgan’s efforts allow him to reach the rank of comandante, though his true intentions are later revealed and lead to his imprisonment. The comandante is later sentenced to a firing squad after being charged with working alongside U.S. intelligence under J. Edgar Hoover.
Yankee Comandante won’t be the only adaptation of Grann’s article, as it was also announced that Focus Features was collaborating with George Clooney on their own film based off the same source material. Driver has experienced great box office success, appearing in Marriage Story, The Report and Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker. His next appearance will be in Ridley Scott’s next project, The Last Duel, which was forced to suspend production following the COVID-19 outbreak.
