Joel Coen (Fargo (1996)) and Tony Kushner (Lincoln) are some of the 170 signatures who signed a letter in defense of Mark Ruffalo (The Avengers) for being called anti-semitic. Ruffalo was recently called anti-semitic when he called out the CEO of Paramount, David Ellison’s, ties to Israel.  The letter, titled “Enough!”, begins, “We are Jewish artists, writers, creative professionals, faith leaders and thinkers who have, in response to the outrageous smear campaign against our respected colleague Mark Ruffalo, a simple message to share with the world: Enough!”

The letter continues, “Enough with the false and dangerous weaponization of charges of antisemitism against those who are brave enough to point out the obvious: that the assault on the Palestinian people and the assault on our liberties at home are deeply interconnected, and there is nothing antisemitic about recognizing that fact.” The rest of the letter calls out Ellison and his partners, claiming they “has never been shy about trumpeteing” and support “depredations” on the Palestine people and “silencing of critics of those horrors.”

The end of the letter is signed off with,”We stand proudly with Mark Ruffalo, and with all decent people who are bravely rising and speaking truth to power,” followed by signatures from other actors, film makers, professors, rabbis and people from other industries.
