A statement released by representative Charles Lago on Friday announced that actor Tom Sizemore has died at 61. Sizemore was hospitalized after suffering a brain aneurysm in mid-February and has since remained in a coma and intensive care.
Doctors at Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, California, informed the actor’s family that there was “no further hope” and recommended an “end-of-life decision.” Sizemore passed away peacefully surrounded by his two sons and his brother, Paul Sizemore, who said in the statement:
“[Tom] was larger than life. He has influenced my life more than anyone I know. He was talented, loving, giving and could keep you entertained endlessly with his wit and storytelling ability. I am devastated he is gone and will miss him always.”
Sizemore became a Hollywood name by playing tough guys in hit films such as Saving Private Ryan, Natural Born Killers, Pearl Harbor, and Black Hawk Down. He found his breakout performance as Sgt. Vinnie Ventresca in the ABC series China Beach.
In a statement on behalf of Sizemore’s family, Lago asked “for privacy for his family during this difficult time, and they wish to thank everyone for the hundreds of messages of support and prayers that have been received. This has been a difficult time for them.”
