Actor Robert Duvall Dead At 95

According to WCNC, actor Robert Duvall (Lonesome Dove, Apocalypse Now) has passed away at the age of 95. The news was announced on his Facebook page via his wife Luciana. She mentions he “passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by love and comfort.” 

Duvall is well-known for his roles in Apocalypse Now, Tender Mercies and The Godfather. He is an Oscar-winning actor and has been on the big screen for seven decades. 

He was born on January 5, 1931 to an actor mother and U.S. Navy admiral father in San Diego, CA. He played a range of characters per WCNC

WCNC stated that Duvall has been nominated for the Academy Award seven times. However, in 1984 he won his first Oscar as the lead of the film Tender Mercies. In 2007, he won his final Emmy award for lead actor for Broken Tail, a Western miniseries. He has been credited as director, actor and soundtrack singer for films such as Crazy Hearts, Tender Mercies and The Apostle.

His other roles include Harry Hogge in Days of Thunder, Major Frank Burns in MASH, Ned Pepper in True Grit, Boo Radley in To Kill a Mockingbird, Cash in Jack Reacher, Joseph Palmer in The Judge alongside Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man, The Avengers) Jean Pepe in The Pale Blue Eye, Roger Chillingworth in The Scarlet Letter and THX in the sci-fi film created by George Lucas (Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, Raiders of The Lost Ark) THX 1138 as stated by WCNC

Luciana wrote via the Facebook post, “For each of his many roles, Bob gave everything to his characters and to the human spirit they represented. In doing so, he leaves something lasting and unforgettable to us all.” Luciana proceeds to thank fans for support and respect of privacy during the difficult time. The post can be read below:
