The new year is upon us, and film fanatics have switched into high gear for the upcoming 2020 Oscars season. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has distributed its ballots for the 92nd annual Academy Awards, giving members just five more days to nominate their best films and performances of the year.
The voting body, known simply as The Academy, is consisted of approximately 8,730 voting members. As the ceremony will be held two weeks earlier than normal this year, it is impotent each member sees as many films as possible before casting their ballot. AMPAS will collect the votes come Tuesday before broadcasting the nominees officially Jan. 13.
The 92nd annual ceremony still has not announced a host, with first-time producers Stephanie Allain and Lynette Howell Taylor in charge of the roughly three hour long telecast. It is unlikely a host will enter the picture this late, as last year’s show went on without one.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will announce its nominees for the 2020 awards ceremony Monday, Jan. 13. With the Golden Globes this weekend, loyal viewers should be able to spot a few precursors ahead of the ceremony, which will be broadcast on ABC Feb. 9 at 8 PM EST.
