A24 to Distribute Brie Larson Action-Starrer ‘Free Fire’

After the great critical success of Room, the drama adaptation that earned its star Brie Larson Best Actress Oscar, A24 is ready to get back into business with the newly bankable actress. According to Deadline, the distribution company has picked up her next release, Free Fire, as part of a fire sale over at Alchemy Films – they also recently picked up Yorgos Lanthimos’ The Lobster from the company now going through financial troubles.

Free Fire centers on an arms deal that goes terribly wrong. Larson plays a third party that has organized a meeting between two Irishmen and a duo of gangster arms dealers in an abandoned warehouse. Pandemonium ensues after shots are fired and everyone must struggle to make it out alive.

The pic was co-written and directed by Ben Wheatley who also helms High-Rise, the soon-to-be-released thriller starring Tom Hiddleston (Crimson Peak). Free Fire also stars Sharlto Copley (District 9), Armie Hammer (The Social Network), Cillian Murphy (Inception), Sam Riley (On the Road), Noah Taylor (Edge of Tomorrow), and Jack Reynor (Transformers: Age of Extinction).

A24’s Remember can now be seen in select theaters. Their upcoming releases include How to Talk to Girls at Parties starring Nicole Kidman and Elle FanningAmerican Honey starring Shia Labeouf, and the Sundance hit Morris From America.

Free Fire is out of post-production and is ready to hit theaters. A24 will therefore likely set a release date soon. In a released statement, the distributors commented:

We’re thrilled to be working on Free Fire — Ben Wheatley is one of the most exciting and innovative filmmakers out there, and we have no doubt he will brilliantly orchestrate this story’s electrifying mayhem. This promises to be both one of the most accomplished and one of the most fun movies of the next year, and we’re excited to bring it to a wide audience.
