David Robert Mitchell, who terrified audiences with his 2014 release, It Follows, is returning with his second feature starring Andrew Garfield about an Los Angeles date that ends with mystery. Decidedly going for a lighter tone, Mitchell’s film (the trailer for which was recently released) still has the sense of suburban mystery that follows from his first feature.
The film was supposed to come out on June 22 and now the date has been pushed to December 7, moving it closer to the big-name competitors for next year’s top Hollywood awards, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The only other film being released on the date is the historical drama Mary, Queen of Scots, that stars Margot Robbie and Saoirse Ronan, thus making it a big-named genre project to keep against right before the release of Christmas’ heavy hitters. Nevertheless, the star power of Garfield and the excellent directorial abilities of Mitchell clearly have given A24 motivation in the success of the project.
