A Release Date For ‘Longlegs’ “Not Exactly A Sequel” Sequel Has Been Set

Longlegs’ new home, Paramount, has set a release date for its “not exactly a sequel” sequel: January 14th, 2028. Filmmaker Osgood Perkins will return to write and direct the horror feature, with star Nicolas Cage also set to return.

When Longlegs was released back in July 2024, it launched Perkins as one of the mainstream directors of the horrorsphere. Despite subpar reviews, Longlegs grossed approximately $128 million worldwide on a $10 million budget and is already on its way to becoming a cult classic. The original was released by Neon, whose marketing campaign was a big factor in the film’s success, and starred Maika Monroe as Agent Lee Harker, an FBI agent tasked with hunting down a sadistic serial killer by the name of “Longlegs” (Cage). With Cage signed on to this new film, we might be getting a Longlegs prequel centering on Cage’s character before the events of the first film. Only time will tell.

The next film from Perkins, set to be released later this year, is The Young People, starring Lola Tung, Nico Parker, and the horror filmmaker’s frequent collaborator, Tatiana Maslany. Perkins is also credited as a producer on Kane Parson’s upcoming sci-fi horror feature The Backrooms.

Mallery McKay: I am a graduate student, focusing on writing for and about films. I have a passion for films and the news surrounding them, so I always try and keep up to date with the latest news.
