‘A Quiet Place: Day One’ Director Set To Direct And Write The ‘Death Stranding’ Live Action Adaptation

Death Stranding is meeting their maker as Michael Sarnoski is set to direct and write the long-awaited live-action adaptation of the Hideo Kojima video game, with A24, Kojima Productions, and Square Peg as producers. The feature will explore the enigmas around “the ‘Death Stranding’—a catastrophic series of events that blurred the boundaries between the worlds of the living and the dead, bringing forth nightmarish creatures into a fragmented world on the brink of collapse.” This confirmation is following a series of Kojima Productions announcements at SXSW, one of them being the new game’s, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, launch date, which is on June 26th, 2025. Along with the date came a trailer and a confirmation of a “worldwide concert tour based on the franchise.”

The first Death Stranding launched on November 8, 2019, via PlayStation 4 and reached over 19 million players globally. Players take on the role of Sam Porter Bridges, a person assigned to reconnect a split United States to rebuild “hope” and re-establish “connection among the last remnants of humanity.” The game is also known for its all-star ensemble, including Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, Léa Seydoux, and Margaret Qualley. The sequel will also see the return of Reedus and Seydoux, along with Troy Baker, and actors Luca Marinelli and Elle Fanning will join the ensemble.

Sarnoski’s first directed feature, Pig, came out back in 2021 and gave Nicolas Cage his most critically acclaimed performance of the last decade. Since then Sarnoski directed the A Quiet Place prequel, A Quiet Place: Day One, which grossed approximately $250 million worldwide. His next film, Death of Robin Hood, began principal photography in early February and has a cast made up of Hugh Jackman, Jodie Comer, Bill Skarsgård, Murray Bartlett, and Noah Jupe.
