Agatha Christie’s stories have been adapted several times to film and television. Her character, detective Hercule Poirot had his own show broadcasted between 1989 and 2013 and recently a new series of films about him have been released. On 2017 Murder on the Orient Express premiered followed by this year’s Death on the Nile, both features directed by Kenneth Branagh, who also plays the famous detective. The last film performed well at the box office so it seems that we are going to have Poirot for a long time.
A new film is currently in the works also with Kenneth Branagh as the lead and director again. The film is entitled A Haunting in Venice and is starting its production this October 31.
The cast includes some actors that have already worked with Branagh in Belfast such as Jamie Dornan and 12-year-old actor Jude Hill, who played the lead at the Academy Award winning film.
Other stars to act in new Poirot’s feature are Tina Fey (Mean Girls, Soul), Michelle Yeoh (Everything, Everywhere, All at once) and Kelly Reilly (Pride and Prejudice). The characters each actor is going to play is not yet disclosed.
According to Branagh this story is – “The chance to deliver something truly spine-chilling”- A Haunting in Venice includes some supernatural elements and is set on Halloween night. Detective Poirot who has been in retirement is invited to a gathering in a palazzo that is supposed to be haunted. There is a murder while in there and Poirot will have to once again discover a murderer.
