On Sunday, 20th Century Fox released the newest trailer for Matthew Vaughn’s The King’s Man, which will round out Vaughn’s first film trilogy beginning with 2014’s Kingsman: The Secret Service. The trailer explores the origin of the Kingsman spy franchise in World War I while still sticking to tradition with its focus on a veteran agent and his sidekick, played respectively by Ralph Fiennes and Harris Dickinson. The King’s Man still looks to capture the audience with stylized action scenes and a bolstered cast in the vein of its predecessors.
The trailer begins on the battlefront with a voiceover stating, “ This will not be a war of heroes,” as we’re introduced early to our newest Kingsman duo in Fiennes and Dickinson. Quickly it cuts to soldiers fighting on No Mans’ Land before reverting back to Dickinson receiving training by Djimon Hounsou. Fiennes acknowledges how eager his newest protégé is for battle, but then reveals to Dickinson their base of operations. Cue the Black Sabbath track, with Fiennes explaining the Kingsman organization’s history via a montage of them suiting up and fighting off attackers. The main villain, played by Rhys Ifans, seems to have created a weaponized serum, as he shows while carrying a child before injecting them. It finishes with several fight scenes as Fiennes gives Dickinson some words of advice: “reputation is what people think of you, but character is what you are.”
The King’s Man’s cast also includes Gemma Arterton, Stanley Tucci, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Daniel Bruhl and is set to release on February 14th, 2020. Watch the trailer below.
