2026 BAFTA Film Award Nominations Are Here

Announced Tuesday in London, the 2026 BAFTA nominees set up a showdown between One Battle After Another and Sinners with OBAA edging out the horror-vampire film by 1 nomination. This follows up last week’s Oscar nominations where Sinners broke the record with 16 nominations compared to One Battle’s 13.  For the BAFTA’s the script flipped with the latter earning 14 and the former earning 13 nominations respectively. 

Marty Supreme and Hamnet were the other films to clear 10 nominations as both earned 11, with Sentimental Value and Frankenstein close behind with 8 apiece. Chloé Zhao has etched her name into history with Hamnet as it became the most nominated film ever at the BAFTA’s by a female director. The film is recognized in the best film categories, best director category, received 3 acting nominations, and a litany of other nominations. The BAFTA awards has 2 best film categories, with one spotlighting specifically British films.

The acting categories for this year’s BAFTA awards have most of the same competition if you have been following along this award season, but the British film academy has given recognition to some overlooked performances.  In best supporting actress, Carey Mulligan and Emily Watson are receiving recognition for their performances in The Ballad of Wallis Island and Hamnet, while Robert Aramayo is in the running for best actor for I Swear.  One film that has been heating up as we get deeper into award season is Bugonia and after what some might argue was a snub with Jesse Plemons going unnominated for an Oscar, he does earn the nomination here for his performance.

In total, 46 films were recognized in some form or fashion by the BAFTA awards, one of the most notable being Wicked: For Good after the major struggles the film has faced this award season.  Films that went unrecognized include Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, The Testament of Ann Lee, No Other Choice, and Jay Kelly.  The rest of the categories and the respective nominees are listed as follows:
