The winners for 2023’s Gotham Awards were announced Monday night. To see all the nominees and categories, the Hollywood Reporter has provided comprehensive list.
Taking Best Feature, Past Lives, directed by Celine Song, won and was nominated for two other awards (Celine Song for Breakthrough Director Award and Greta Lee for Outstanding Lead Performance).
A.V. Rockwell’s A Thousand and One received the Breakthrough Director Award and was nominated for two additional awards (Best Feature and Teyana Taylor for Outstanding Lead Performance). Rockwell’s speech was emotional and told of the challenges she faced while telling an authentic story: “Maybe one of the biggest things actually was telling a very truthful, authentic, very raw experience that can be so hard when it’s culturally specific, and I felt like I fought tooth and nail for every inch of, every piece of what you’ve seen on screen.”
Unfortunately for All of Us Strangers, directed by Andrew Haigh, the film left empty-handed despite being nominated for four awards (Best International Feature, Andrew Haigh for Best Screenplay, Andrew Scott for Outstanding Lead Performance, and Claire Foy for Outstanding Supporting Performance).
Anatomy of a Fall, directed by Justine Triet, was nominated for two awards and won both, taking home Best International Feature and Best Screenplay to Justine Triet and Arthur Harari.
Taking home the award for Best Documentary Feature was Four Daughters, directed by Kaouther Ben Hania.
Lily Gladstone took home the award for Outstanding Lead Performance for her role in Morrisa Maltz’s The Unknown Country; Charles Melton took home the award for Outstanding Supporting Performance for his role in May December, directed by Todd Haynes.
In the TV categories, Beef received the most nominations with three awards, winning two of these awards. The limited series won Breakthrough Series Under 40 Minutes and Outstanding Performance in a New Series category. The series also received two nominations for Ali Wong and Steven Yuen’s work in the series. Ali Wong took home this award, however.
A Small Light won the award for Breakthrough Series Over 40 Minutes.
Gotham Award nominees are chosen by committees composed of many members involved in the film industry. Separate juries then decide which nominees will be the winners of these awards.
