With three talented women hosting, the opening monologue of the Oscars this year was bound to be eventful. It was most certainly the case thanks to the legendary Wanda Sykes.
Sykes, who came out as Lesbian in 2008, began to bring the beginning jokes to a close by offering the audience, “We’re going to have a great night tonight. And for you people in Florida, we’re going to have a gay night.” Sykes is then joined by her co-hosts Amy Schumer and Regina Hall for a ‘gay’ repetition.
Surely members of the LGBTQ+ community everywhere cracked a smile at the jab towards the highly controversial Florida bill attempting to silence Queer conversation and education.
Either way, it was a memorable way to start off the evening.
