Welcome to the Weekly Trailer Roundup, where we count down the top five trailers released in the past week, “top” being defined any way we want to at the moment…exciting, ridiculous, best, worst…
These are the trailers that, for one reason or another, you should be paying attention to.
Even for non-sports fans the Super Bowl has become a must-watch event due to advertisers pulling out all the stops and delivering the best commercials of the year. What this also means is that studios try to capitalize on all the extra audience attention by placing TV spots and trailers for their biggest upcoming movies. Of course, this being 2015 and the age of too much information, many of these TV spots can of course already be seen on the internet. And thus we present 5 of the more interesting spots that will be playing (or rather, did play) in between plays in that sporting event that also happens to be going on Sunday.
#5 – Hot Tub Time Machine 2
Kudos to the marketing geniuses at Paramount, both for their opportunistic thinking and their quick action in getting a spot ready that references the ridiculous “Deflate-Gate”. It’s not a great spot, but it is timely.
#4 – Terminator: Genisys
Nope, still don’t have a clue what’s going on in this movie.
#3 – Minions
Another in a line of cute and effective spots for this upcoming spin-off movie.
#2 – Insurgent
At a cost of $4.5M for 30 seconds of ad time, you’d think you’d want to keep the slow-motion footage to a minimum . . .
#1 – Kingsman: The Secret Service
A great, edgy spot. This one might actually move the needle on a movie that doesn’t have a huge brand name behind it and could use some help with awareness.
