Guide to 2021 Summer Movie Releases

With theaters opening up and some sense of normalcy returning, summer blockbuster season is back! The past few box office weekends have been a good sign that audiences are in fact filling seats once again, which means more studios are inclined to release many long-delayed titles this season. As we eagerly begin packing theaters again, let’s have a look at what we’ve got on our itinerary for the summer.

June kicks us off nicely, having already put out a couple of big titles.  First is ‘A Quiet Place Part II,’ having come out at the tail end of May upon years of anticipation.

Fans of even deeper horror are treated to another installment in ‘The Conjuring’ series with ‘The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me do It.’

However, summer blockbusters are synonymous with action movies and June will be bringing us ‘F9,’ yet another hyped up installment of the ‘Fast and Furious’ franchise, out on June 25.

Additionally, ‘The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard’ is another sequel out on June 16th with a star studded cast.  On a lighter, and maybe even more exciting note, Pixar’s ‘Luca’ will be hitting the big screen in a couple of weeks.  Acclaimed Broadway musical, ‘In The Heights’ made its cinematic debut this month on June 4th.

Lastly, the hopefully hilarious ‘America: The Motion Picture’ comes out on Netflix at the end of the month, on June 30th.  With a hilarious cast and being led by ‘Archer’ executive producer, Matt Thompson, we’ve got high hopes for this one.

July has a strong responsibility, being the heart of the summer, and so far it seems like it’s going to deliver.  The biggest title of the month, potentially even the summer, is ‘Black Widow,’ arriving on July 9th.  With Marvel slowing down their dense output of movies, ‘Black Widow’ will be a massive success.  Not only was this movie highly requested for years, but now that we won’t see much of Natasha in the later films, if at all, her solo film will have plenty of fans flocking.

Beyond that likely monumental release, there are a couple of other blockbusters of note to come out in July.  ‘Jungle Cruise’ (July 30th) another outing from The Rock, will likely fare well in addition to a slew of children’s movies such as sequels to ‘Boss Baby’ (July 2nd) and ‘Hotel Transylvania’ (July 23rd).  However, if there’s any kids movie that will have a high volume of adults in attendance, it’s undoubtedly going to be June 16th’s ‘Space Jam: A New Legacy.’  The now-adult fans of the first film are likely just as excited as the youngsters that grew/are growing up watching LeBron James.  We have little doubt that this will be as fun as it is successful.

August is surprisingly bare in terms of name brand/franchise releases.  The biggest name is the James Gunn helmed ‘The Suicide Squad.’  With the disappointment of the previous one, even skeptical fans await the August 6th release date in the hopes that Gunn does some justice.

For the youngest youngsters, ‘PAW Patrol: The Movie’ comes out on August 20th.  On the other side of the age spectrum, Peter Jackson’s documentary ‘The Beatles: Get Back’ hits the big screen on August 27th.  This will feature plenty of never before seen footage from their recording sessions in the ‘Let It Be’ era, very exciting!

With all of these titles, except for ‘America: The Motion Picture,’ coming to theaters this summer, there’s so much to be excited about!  What are you most looking forward to seeing?
