Warner Bros. Pictures has officially released the first images from the live-action reboot of Mortal Kombat, giving fans their first look at the adaptation. The film is directed by Simon McQuoid and produced by James Wan (Aquaman, The Conjuring). The film is based off of the extremely popular 90s video game series, which currently has 18 different games. The film has a star-studded cast, including Lewis Tan,
Hiroyuki Sanada, Joe Taslim, Ludi Lin, and Jessica McNamee. The newly released images themselves don’t give away any information on the plot, so spoilers are not a worry, but actor Lewis Tan’s (Into the Badlands) role is finally revealed. According to Screen Rant, Tan’s role was undisclosed until now, and it is now confirmed that the actor will play Cole Young in the film. The plot of the reboot will be different from the original, as Tan’s character will be a new character in the series, yet the plot of the film has not been revealed. The original film adaptation of the video game series was released in 1995, which received very positive reviews. The sequel, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, was released in 1997, and received pretty negative reviews. Hopefully the reboot will be extremely successful like the first film.
Mortal Kombat is currently scheduled for a release in theaters and on HBO Max on April 16th, 2021.
