With the news of Zack Snyder releasing his director’s cut of Justice League on HBO Max rocking the world, David Ayer has continued to hint at his DC film, Suicide Squad, getting the same treatment.
A new dialogue has started between fans of the film and Ayer, who both are hopeful that the much maligned film will get new life like Justice League will, with Ayer hoping that his vision of the film will see the light of day. David Ayer, in an pseudo-twitter interview with Collider, was asked about if there was any possibility and there are practical reasons to be hopeful about it, “This is a good question. My cut would be easy to complete. It would be incredibly cathartic for me. It’s exhausting getting your ass kicked for a film that got the Edward Scissorhands treatment. The film I made has never been seen.”
Zack Snyder’s version of Justice League will take 20-30 million dollars to create with reshoots and special effects still needed to be done. If David Ayer’s comments are accurate, there is no reason that HBO Max wouldn’t gamble on another Director’s Cut of a superhero movie with potential. Any hope of an ‘Ayer Cut’ being released on HBO Max is reliant on Snyder’s cut being successful. With the popularity of both superhero movies and VOD platforms never higher, the the odds of Ayer getting his wish are much better than previously thought.
