In regards to the DC Cinematic Universe, there have been many characters fans have wanted to see in live action. One in particular is the very popular DC villainess, Poison Ivy. The character only had one live action appearance in film being the infamous Batman and Robin played by Uma Thurman. Fans wanted her to appear on screen again not just to see a proper version of the character, but also to interact with Harley Quinn, who in recent comics and animated series have developed a romantic relationship between one another. Fortunately, Birds of Prey director Cathy Yan agrees with most fans, as in an recent interview, Yan expressed interest in bringing Ivy into a potential sequel.
In an interview with the Wrap, Yan was asked about what ideas she could bring to a sequel to Birds of Prey and one of them was including Poison Ivy. She stated, “I would love to see Poison Ivy and I would certainly love to see the relationship between Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy”. While the term relationship seemed rather vague, fans can only assume that this type of relationship would be romantic as over the years, they’ve been one of the most popular couples for fans ever since they became partners in crime in Batman the Animated Series.
While Birds of Prey wasn’t a huge financial hit box office wise, the film has garnered a ton of support from fans, especially with its recent digital release. If the possibility of Yan directing either a full on sequel to Birds of Prey or even another film featuring Harley Quinn, it would be a great opportunity to add Poison Ivy to the DCEU as a great companion to Harley. Especially with the Joker being out of the picture for the time being, fans being able to see Harley and Ivy interact in a future DC movie would bring a lot to Warner Bros’ comic book universe.
