Are you ready to play a game? The next chapter in the Saw franchise has arrived, with the trailer for the Chris Rock executive-produced Spiral dropping this morning. The film stars the comedian as a detective who “take[s] charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past,” according to the film’s official synopsis.
Rock revealed his plans to reboot the series last year, dubbing himself a big fan of Saw‘s gore filled games and traps. Darren Lynn Bousman, who previously directed Saw II, III, and IV, will return to helm Spiral: From The Book of Saw. The film will center on Detective Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks (Rock), accompanied by rookie partner William Schenk (Max Minghella), in investigating a new set of bloody murders. The pair work in the shadow of esteemed police veteran Marcus Banks (Samuel L. Jackson), and before too long, Zeke finds himself at the center of the grisly games.
The film will notably contain all the gory delights Saw fans know and love from the franchise, with added comedic elements thanks to Rock serving as executive producer. This role seems to be first in a string of dramatic efforts from the comedian, with Rock set to star in season 4 of Fargo later this year, as well as the upcoming Roald Dahl adaptation The Witches alongside Anne Hathaway.
Spiral: From The Book of Saw hits theaters May 15, 2020.
