Luke Barnett and Tanner Thomason have taken an unusual approach with the trailer for their upcoming movie Faith Based, a comedy film that will satirize bad Christian films. Instead of a conventional trailer that shows off some scenes or clips from the movie, the trailer consists of Barnett and Tanner sitting down and reading mean quotes that people have written about the movie. Most of the negative comments the read come from conservative sources like Fox News, Breitbart, and various Christian-based news sites.
That’s right: despite the fact that Faith Based has not even come out yet, many conservatives and Christians have already begun bashing the movie. Although a lot of the comments they read are rather mean spirited, Barnett and Thomason seem to take the backlash in stride. The duo explain that all the negative press have actually helped give Faith Based plenty of free exposure.
Faith Based was written by Barnett and will star both him and Thomason in leading roles. The movie’s other cast include stars like Jason Alexander, Margret Cho, and Lance Reddick. Both Barnett and Thoason are well known for their work on the comedy website Funny or Die and Barnett is also recognized as the writer behind the horror movie Fear, Inc.
Faith Based will be directed by Vincent Masciale and will premiere later this month, though it’s unknown when a wide release will happen. It’s too bad that people are writing these hateful things without even giving the movie a chance, but hopefully the negative attention will help Faith Based succeed.
