Back in the pre-internet dark ages of the 90’s, Disney unleashed a movie called Hocus Pocus upon the world. It starred Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker as three witch sisters killed in 1693 during the witch hunts in Salem. But, thanks to a magical curse, the three witches are resurrected and return to spread terror once more on Halloween night in the then-modern year of 1993. The witches are of course stopped a group of young children.
When it was first released in theaters Hocus Pocus was not a critical or financial success but, thanks to the dark magic of nostalgia, the movie has grown in popularity over the years. For a lot of people Hocus Pocus has become a Halloween cult classic, and now every October it returns to bewitch audiences.
Ever since Hocus Pocus gained popularity people have been wondering when, or even if, Disney would ever make a sequel, and there have been a lot of rumors about this possibility. Now, after more than 2 decades, Disney has finally announced that a Hocus Pocus 2 is currently in the works. Movie Web revealed that Disney hired Jen D’Angelo, the writer behind Workaholics, to write a screenplay for the sequel. Currently it is unknown whether or not Midler, Najimy, or Parker will reprise their roles as the Sanders Sisters, though Collider believes Disney is trying to get them back. So who knows if we’ve really seen the last of the Sanders Sisters!
