For many people, especially those familiar with British entertainment, movies and videos produced by Aardman Animations are a great source of nostalgia. For anyone somehow unfamiliar with them, Aardman Animation is a British animation studio that specializes in stop motion clay animation, having produced he Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists!, Early Man, and Shaun the Sheep. However, their most famous and beloved creations by far are Wallace & Gromit, resulting in four TV episodes, multiple shorts and the feature length movie Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit.
According to Movie Web, Aardman Animations has just announced their next feature length movie: Chicken Run 2. The original Chicken Run was actually Aardman’s first feature length film, telling the story of a group of chickens who try to escape their farm. The chickens were led by a hen named Ginger (Julia Sawalha) and find aid in a rooster named Rocky (Mel Gibson) supposedly capable of flight. Released in 2000, Chicken Run was both a critical and financial success.
Now almost two decades later, Aardman has finally begun work on the sequel. The movie is in early stages of development, but apparently the model-making team has already begun work on the chicken designs. Writers Karey Kirkpatrick and John O’Farrell, who wrote the screenplay for the original movie, will be returning to draft Chicken Run 2‘s story. Paul Kewley will be producing the film and Sam Fell, who directed ParaNorman, will be directing it. It is currently unknown when Chicken Run 2 will be released, but animation, especially stop motion, takes time so it will probably be a while.
