Based off the original YouTube series, Netflix released a new trailer today based on the Zack Galifianakis-hosted show Between Two Ferns. Between Two Ferns: the Movie is directed by Scott Aukerman and produced by Funny or Die, with both Aukerman and Galifianakis penning the script. The mockumentary feature numerous celebrity guests whom Galifianakis interviews in a set that stylistically resembles a public access program.
The trailer starts with Mathew McConaughey being insulted by Galifianakis, only to then cut to McConaughey being found dead in a freak accident. Hoping for more exposure, Galifianakis demands a network show from producer Will Ferrell, who ultimately turns him down. Midway through the trailer, we find Galifianakis insulting and throwing dry humor towards celebs such as Brie Larson, Jon Hamm and Benedict Cumberbatch, the last of whom he annoyingly butchers the pronunciation of his name.
Well known for his iconic role as Alan Garner in the Hangover series, Galifianakis has since gained popularity in the comedic realm due to performances in Birdman and his FX show Baskets. Fans of Funny or Die should be pleased with the resurgence of Between Two Ferns, which benefited greatly from the segments it produced for the website created by both Will Ferrell and Adam McKay.
Between Two Ferns: the Movie will be available to be streamed on Netflix on September 20th, check out the trailer below.
