The director’s commentary for Avengers: Endgame’s digital release provided fans with far more insight on the film’s production and MCU’s future. In particular, directors Joe and Anthony Russo spoke about how Robert Redford, who starred as Alexander Pierce in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and reprised his role in Avengers: Endgame, announced that the latter would be his last film role ever according to Heroic Hollywood. He accepted this MCU cameo after officially retiring following his work on the film The Old Man & the Gun.
Although Redford stated again that he would not appear in any other movies after Endgame, it has been reported that he will portray the U.S. President in the HBO series Watchman. This casting would be a callback to the graphic novel’s final pages, in which Redford, rather than Ronald Reagan, became the actor-turned political figure who ran for the Presidency in Watchmen‘s alternate reality.
The All The President’s Men actor reappeared in Endgame despite his death in Winter Soldier, thanks in part to the Avengers team traveling back in time to 2012 to retrieve the Tesseract and its Infinity Stone. Marvel is planning to release Endgame on DVD and Blu-Ray on August 13th. While fans must wait to obtain the film’s hard copy, they can still watch Endgame now through digital platforms such as Amazon and iTunes.
