It was only a matter of time before Disney’s live-action remakes would strike again, this time with The Little Mermaid. The film that launched a new age of Animation for Disney’s 90s Renaissance was bound to be remade in the wake of Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and The Lion King, the last of which will be released this month. In that time, many have been curious about who would play the iconic role of Princess Ariel herself.
Now the remake, directed by Mary Poppins Returns’ Rob Marshall, has found its Ariel in a form of a newcomer actress: Halle Bailey. Bailey is mostly well known for being a part of the R&B Group Chloe X Halle alongside her sister Chloe Bailey. She has yet to do a ton of movie roles at the moment, with her main acting roles being in TV- namely as Skylar Forster on Grown-ish- and a small appearance in the 2006 comedy Last Holiday. However, considering how recognizable of a character Ariel is, taking on the role will definitely provide the singer with a ton of global recognition. Regardless of how the movie is seen by those critical of Disney’s live action remakes, this role will definitely do wonders for Halle’s future.
