Cannes tends to be a very iconic movie festival however, it is known for having audiences who are hard to please. There have been many reports of screenings for various iconic films that end up being booed during their premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. Apparently, if you have a well-done movie about Elton John premiering at the festival, you get the exact opposite reaction. The Elton John Biopic Rocketman premiered at Cannes on May 16th and was met with glowing praise from audiences who witness the film.
After the film had ended, a near 4 minute standing ovation occurred in celebration of the hard work done by Dexter Fletcher and Taron Egerton. Many praised the film for it’s cinematography, musical numbers, portrayal of a music iconic and Egerton’s performance as John himself. An added bonus was in store during the show as Taron Egerton and Elton John performed a duet during the show of the film’s title song Rocketman. With the praise of Rocketman this early on from such a prestigious festival, the film is certainly expected to be a big hit for this summer filled with so many different types of films.
