Welsh actor, Anthony Hopkins (Silence of the Lambs, Westworld), and English actress, Olivia Colman (The Favourite, The Crown), have both joined the cast of the upcoming film, The Father. It is an adaptation of the extremely popular and critically acclaimed French play of the same name (Le Père) written by French playwright, Florian Zeller.
The Academy Award-winning actors portray the story through an older, independent man (Hopkins) who constantly refuses any assistance from his daughter, Anne (Colman). Upon Anne deciding to move to Paris with her spouse, her father begins to contemplate the change in reality. His sense of life as it is begins to escape him and he doesn’t believe in his loved ones.
Playwright Zeller shall direct the adaptation from a screenplay he wrote alongside British playwright and screenwriter, Christopher Hampton. The film, which is set to open at Cannes Film Festival, is supposedly starting principal photography in the UK sometime in the month of May. The project is funded by Elarof Fund and television channel Film4. There is not much else known about the project, as it remains in early stages of development.
