DreamWorks Animated is revisiting the island of Burk, the Viking village once plagued by dragon attacks where Toothless and Hiccup met for the first time in the surprise 2010 hit How to Train Your Dragon. The computer-animated fantasy film earned $500 million worldwide and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Score. That year DreamWorks lost to the monumentally anticipated Toy Story 3, but will try to recapture the magic, and hopefully the Oscar with How to Train Your Dragon 2.
Now that the Vikings of Burk live in harmony with the dragons that they one feared, the story will fittingly find them taking to the skies and discovering more about the world around them:
It’s been five years since Hiccup and Toothless successfully united dragons and vikings on the island of Berk. While Astrid, Snoutlout and the rest of the gang are challenging each other to dragon races (the island’s new favorite contact sport), the now inseparable pair journey through the skies, charting unmapped territories and exploring new worlds. When one of their adventures leads to the discovery of a secret ice cave that is home to hundreds of new wild dragons and the mysterious Dragon Rider, the two friends find themselves at the center of a battle to protect the peace. Now, Hiccup and Toothless must unite to stand up for what they believe while recognizing that only together do they have the power to change the future of both men and dragons.
The entire gang is back, and the celebrity all-star voice over cast that gave them life. This time Cate Blanchett will be joining the actors from the original film, which includes Jay Baruchel as Hiccup and Gerard Butler as his father. Also returning are Jonah Hill, America Ferrera, Kristen Wiig, and Craig Ferguson. Together, they will embark on a journey that seems to be just as personal and epic as How to Train Your Dragon.
The animated sequel will arrive in theaters June 13th, 2014. Check out the newly released trailer below:
