It looks like Sony will be continuing to release movies based on the Marvel characters whose rights they still own – a movie based on the character Morbius is expected to go into production sometime in early 2019. The Morbius movie might not have an exact release date yet, but according to The Hashtag Show, some details about the upcoming movie have been revealed.
The film’s storyline follows that of the scientist Dr. Michael Morbius, who gains vampire-like powers after undergoing an experiment that was supposed to cure his blood disease. The eponymous Morbius will be played by Jared Leto.
The film’s antagonist was initially suspected to be the character Emil Nikos, but it was later revealed to that this would not be the case. The character of Nikos will still be in the film, but not as a villain. Instead, the antagonist is a character called Loxias Crown. In the film, Loxias Crown is Morbius’ former friend turned current enemy, who has a blood disease too and also undergoes the same experiment as Morbius that gains him similar powers.
What’s strange is that Loxias Crown is apparently a unique character created for the film and not from the comics. Based on speculation from The Hashtag, it seems that the film version of Loxias Crown is based on the Spider Man villain, Hunger, who at one point went by the alias Crown. Whatever Crown is supposed to be it looks like he is part of the current pattern in superhero films in which the the villain has a similar power-set to the hero.
