While Wonder Woman 1984 has yet to produce a trailer like Aquaman or Shazam, it remains one of the most anticipated DC movies in production. As the only DC Extended Universe film to receive generally positive reviews, Wonder Woman remains an empowering and optimistic origin story. The upcoming sequel was briefly previewed, however, with director Patty Jenkins and stars Gal Gadot and Chris Pine showcasing some early footage at San Diego Comic-Con. In the preview, Diana Prince singlehandedly defeats two bad guys in a staple of 80’s consumerist culture: a mini-mall food court.
Now, according to Hollywood Reporter, Wonder Woman 1984 has picked up another star to join the main cast. Natasha Rothwell, a former SNL writer and current star of the hit HBO comedy Insecure, has been cast in an unspecified role.
Similarly, despite its rather specific title, the film’s setting has yet to produce any definitive narrative details. So far, we know that Gadot’s Wonder Woman will be fighting a Cold War era threat, as well as Kristin Wiig‘s Barbara Minerva aka Cheetah.
In addition to Insecure, Rothwell’s filmography also includes the 2018 LGBT teen romantic drama Love, Simon. She is currently set to star in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie.
