Vin Diesel is making his way back to comic book films. After starring in the fairly popular Chronicles of Riddick, Diesel has signed on to join Bloodshot, a film adaptation that Sony has acquired, according to Deadline. Though there were rumors of talks between Diesel and the company, this marks this official confirmation of his involvement in the film. Diesel is perfect for the role, commonly playing strong male protagonists as seen in his roles in the XXX series as Xander Cage and the Fast and the Furious series as Dominic Toretto. This movie gathers its source material from Valiant Comics, who will also be bringing characters like Eternal Warrior, played by Dave Bautista,to the big screen.
Bloodshot follows the story of a former soldier that is regenerated from his corpse and then endures meta-morphing through the power of nanotechnology in an attempt to make him a living weapon. After having his mind wiped, the soldier begins a journey to discover who he truly is and get revenge for the people who wanted to turn him into a weapon.
The Valiant Comics-based film is being directed by Dave Wilson with a script by writer Eric Heisseser, who became an Academy Award nominee after his work on Arrival. The film adaptation actually had multiple people rumored to join the cast as the main character including Jake Gyllenhaal, Oscar Isaac, Mark Wahlberg, and even Jared Leto, but eventually Sony decided upon Diesel. Currently, no other actors or actresses are connected to the film, but we can expect more information to be released for the film in the coming months.
